Andrew Crane — In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of English painter Andrew Crane, a founding member of Drawing Box.
Andrew was part of the original group that established Drawing Box in 2012, alongside Diane Henshaw, John Crabtree and Patil Rajendra. He played an important role in shaping the collective in its early days and created the original Drawing Box graphics, giving the project its first visual identity.
An accomplished and experimental painter, Andrew’s practice grew from his background in typography and graphic design. His work explored letters, numbers, symbols and abstract forms, often incorporating unconventional materials and richly textured surfaces.
Andrew brought creativity, generosity and a spirit of experimentation to Drawing Box. His contribution is woven into the history of the collective, and the original graphics he created remain a lasting reminder of his involvement in its beginnings.
We extend our deepest condolences to Andrew’s family, friends and fellow artists.
Andrew will be greatly missed, and we are grateful for the important part he played in the story of Drawing Box.

Drawing Box 2027 International tour planned
Drawing Box International presents its latest touring exhibition 20x20, bringing together contemporary drawing by artists from across the globe. Our 2027 touring schedule includes exhibitions at l’Espace Socio-Culturel, Rustrel, France; a commemorative exhibition at AG Art & The Milk Factory honouring Drawing Box member Andre Geertse; projects in California, US; Limerick Museum, Ireland in October; and Cavan Town Hall Arts Centre, Ireland November- December 2027, with additional venues and collaborations to be announced for 2028.
