Tamar Zinn is a New York based visual artist whose work reflects an ongoing engagement with sensory experiences of the natural world. Drawing and painting are each integral to her studio practice. Zinn’s solo exhibition “Standing in the stream” was presented at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, NYC in 2025, her 8th exhibit with the gallery. SelecAons from her drawing series, “There is only the dance” were part of a 4-person exhibit at Bryant Street Gallery, CA. Zinn has participated in numerous group exhibitions and has curated several exhibits, including Explorations in Line, at the Garrison Art Center, and Parallel Pursuits, at Kathryn Markel Fine Arts. Zinn was elected to membership in American Abstract Artists in 2023. Her work has been placed in public and private collections throughout the United States, including CiAbank, Fidelity, IBM, McKinsey, MD Anderson Cancer Center, and NYU-Langone Medical Center.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My drawings are abstractions that arise from physical sensations.  Informed by sensory experiences, I begin by establishing a field using either charcoal or oil pastel. The gestures that merge with the field are a manifestation of breath and felt experience, conveying the transitory nature of sensation. Lines and gestures are executed rapidly, driven by the movement of my hand and charged with the risk of unknowing. While some lines may be dragged and embedded into the surface, many remain unaltered, capturing the energy of a fleeing moment in the stream of Ame.
