Ian Wieczorek
Bio
Ian Wieczorek is a multimedia visual artist working primarily in painting, print, drawing, lens-based media, installation, and curation.
Since 2003 he has exhibited widely both in Ireland (including EVA International; RHA Annual Exhibitions; RUA Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition; COE Claremorris Open Exhibitions), and internationally, with participation in group/curated shows in N. Ireland, England, Germany, France, Portugal, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Latvia, USA, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, and online; and solo exhibitions (17 to date) in Ireland, N. Ireland, UK and Czech Republic. Public art works in Ireland (2012, 2014), and France (2015, 2016, 2024, 2025). Wieczorek has also devised and curated 18 shows in Ireland, and has undertaken residencies in Ireland, UK, France and Austria.
Artist statement
My practice is primarily engaged with contemporary cultural experience and the transactional relationships that exist between the individual and global narratives. I am drawn towards ‘the Uncanny’, the idea of an object being strangely familiar rather than completely unfathomable.
